A doll that arrives cracked ends a sale and starts a dispute. Whether you sell several dolls a month or occasionally resell, these steps protect the piece.
Choose the right box
Use a new, rigid double-wall box a few centimetres larger than the doll on every side. Never ship in an envelope or a soft mailer. If the doll has a brittle head or hands, add an inner box.
Wrap and immobilise
- Wrap the doll in acid-free tissue or soft cloth - never bare bubble wrap against a painted face.
- Support the head and limbs so nothing can bend or press inward.
- Fill all gaps so the doll cannot shift when the box is shaken.
- Keep the face away from any rigid edge.
Insure and declare
Insure for the full replacement value, not the price paid. Keep photographs before sealing in case of a claim.
Customs and paperwork
For cross-border sales, complete the customs form accurately and mark the doll as a made-to-order or collectible item. Buyers are generally responsible for import duties - see shipping, duties and customs.
Tracking and delivery
Always use a tracked, signed-for service and share the number. Store-and-travel basics for the buyer's side are covered in storing and travelling with art dolls.
